GRAMMY nominee Kahulanui is a nine-piece Hawaiian swing band who launched their touring career with their debut GRAMMY nominated release, “Hula Ku’i“. While in New York City kicking off their 2015 summer tour at Lincoln Center The Wall Street Journal wrote:
Hawaii radio icon, Skylark Rossetti says their recording, “Hula Ku’i” is one of the most innovative releases to come out of the islands… Hawaiian Swing at its finest”.
Kahulanui is an inspiration passed down through three generations from Grandfather Robert Kahulanui, to dad, Rodgers L.L. Naipo, Sr., to grandson and Kahulanui band leader, Lolena Naipo, Jr. Lolena remembers stories of his grandfather who was a member of the Royal Hawaiian Band during an era when horns and drums were a part of Hawaiian music.
Kahulanui’s debut release, “Hula Ku’i” , was a 2014 GRAMMY Nominee in the Regional Roots category. It was also a 2013 Na Hoku Hanohano Award finalist in three categories: Album of the Year; Most Promising Artist; Group of the Year. This debut release launched a US touring career.
