Slack Key artist John Keawe was born on Hawai`i Island in the town of Hawi in North Kohala. John has received multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for his slack key guitar recordings and compositions, most of which were recorded on his own label, Homestead Productions. In 2003 John was awarded with the prestigious Ki ho`alu Award for his role in perpetuating the art of slack key guitar. John performed on Palm Records' “Slack Key Guitar” and also on “Slack Key Guitar Vol 2", which received a GRAMMY® Award for Best Hawaiian Music Album.
